WAVES AND ENERGY

In recent years we have been developping numerical simulations and experiments to investigate the interaction between surface water waves and semi-submerged bodies. This year we are proud to have signed a research collaboration agreement with the Marine Energy Research and Innovation Center (MERIC). The research areas include fluid-solid interaction, digital signal processing and propagation of linear and non-linear surface waves, wave-induced roll over floating bodies, dead wake turbulence.

GOAL
Solid - Fluid Interaction
We perform a CFD modelling on different fluid solid interactions. A solid ball is rotating just across the interface between water (red) and air (blue). The splashing produced perdiodically closely resembles experiments performed at lab.

WAVES
Paddle Motion and Wave Propagation
We perfom 2D and 3D numerical simulations of the wave propagation, momentum and energy transfer over semi-submerged bodies. We track forces on the body during the wave interaction.

FEEDBACK CONTROL
Wave Attenuation and Cloakig

We are introducing concepts from feedback control theory on surface waves cancellation by means of PID controllers on the paddle motion. At the same time, the cloaking phenomena on simple shaped bodies is being modelled using PID controllers to attenuate surface reflexion of incoming plane surface waves.
